2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Gregory the Great

6th centuryChurch Father

Verse 19. Neither his descendants shall be present, nor his lineage in the earth, nor a remnant within his domain (Job 18:19). For it is written: The Lord Jesus will bring him down by the Spirit of His mouth, and will annihilate him by the manifestation of His coming (2 Thess. 2:8). Thus, while his iniquity will cease with this age, ‘his descendants shall not endure,’ for he and his followers will face judgment; all the unrighteous, who have been led astray by his malevolence into sinful deeds, shall be struck down to eternal ruin by the brilliance of the Lord's return, along with their leader. There will be ‘none of his lineage remaining upon the earth,’ for the righteous Judge will terminate wickedness alongside the conclusion of this age. Furthermore, it is explicitly revealed that these statements pertain specifically to Antichrist, as he further elaborates:

Ireneus (Orda)

19th centuryCommentator

Job rebukes his friends for their illogical remarks, which provokes a fierce reaction from one of them, Bildad. He responds to Job with hostility, using Job's own declaration of the nearness of death as evidence of his wrongdoing. According to the natural order of the world, the unrighteous, when faced with calamities, cannot escape them, but instead meet their end through death.
