Theodoret of Cyrus
Once hostilities came to an end, the allocation of territory was completed, and the tribes that had drawn lots on the other side of the Jordan journeyed to their new lands. However, before crossing the river, they erected a sizable altar (Hab. 22:10). The nine tribes, unaware of the true intention behind this construction and fearing it signified the onset of wrongdoing, determined to instigate a collective rebellion against their fellow tribes, prioritizing devotion over familial ties.
