The aggressor who had audaciously taken some of the foreign treasures was commanded by Joshua to be delivered to the flames: and he who is found guilty must be consumed by fire, along with all his possessions. Achar, upon being identified as a violator of sacred trust, faced execution by stoning, as noted in the same chapter of Numbers 7:25: "The Lord shall consume you, as He has done this day," and all of Israel stoned him.

The penalty that Achar and his family faced for disrespecting God's authority and committing sacrilege was executed with some leniency. By the directive of Jesus and with the counsel of the elders and leaders of the Hebrews, the accused man was stoned alongside his family prior to their immolation, and then all of his property was set ablaze. They struck him with stones and burned everything with fire.
