The destiny of Jephthah's daughter served as a prelude to another tragic offering that he was soon forced to present following his triumph over the Ammonites. The Ephraimites, envious of his achievements and spoils, swarmed across the Jordan in large numbers and menaced to set his house ablaze, along with him, claiming that he had failed to summon them for the recent conflict.
