Vissarion (Nechaev)
Manoah’s words reveal that he remained unaware of the true identity of the individual he was addressing. He perceived him merely as a servant of God and sought to learn his name—his specific title—so that should the prophecy regarding the birth of a son to a barren woman come to pass, he could identify the man of God and offer him praise. This would entail expressing gratitude through spoken words and tangible offerings. Similarly, Balak intended to honor Balaam with gifts if his prophecies were favorable (Num. 22:17, 37; Num. 24:11).
