After the agreement was endorsed, Samson journeyed towards his wife. As he traveled, he veered from the main path. Out of the wooded brush, a mighty lion, striking in its fierce independence, lunged at him.

Caesarius of Arles

Concerning this lion, dear brethren, numerous church fathers have discussed the matter, and their insights align with the truth. Some have identified the lion as a symbol of Christ our Lord. This is indeed correct, as Christ can be seen as a lion from whom we found sweetness after His crucifixion. What is more delightful than the Word of God? And what strength surpasses the mighty hand of God? In His Word, we discover the essence of our redemption and the gathering of the nations. Additionally, the lion may also represent the Gentiles who have embraced the faith. Initially, they were a body of emptiness, but now they constitute the body of Christ, in which the apostles, like bees, have harvested the honey of wisdom from the heavenly dew and the blossoms of divine grace. Nourishment has emerged from the mouth of the one who consumes, for the nations, once fierce and untamed like a lion, upon receiving the Word of God with sincere hearts, have partaken of the fruit of salvation.
