A Levite, known more for his noble character than for his riches, resided near Mount Ephraim. He received an inheritance of land by lot and chose a wife from Bethlehem in Judah. How sorrowful is this account! One of the Levites chose a partner, often referred to in Scripture as a concubine, due to their cohabitation.
