When the woman fled to her father, the Levite pursued her and convinced her to return with him to his home. Upon reaching the midpoint of the journey, he halted with her at Gibeah, which translates to "hill." Gibeah, or "hill," was populated by the descendants of Benjamin.

The master disapproved of the notion of seeking refuge from outsiders, despite the close proximity of Gibeah and Ramah, towns belonging to the tribe of Benjamin. His decision took precedence over the servant's recommendation, as if the merit of counsel is determined by status, suggesting that valuable advice cannot enhance the standing of someone of humble rank.
