The phrase "Or hunched" depicts a person who neglects the pursuit of heavenly matters, choosing instead to focus on the worldly concerns of earthly beings. The term "or thorny" illustrates an individual whose understanding has been enlightened by the revelation of mysteries but has since become entangled in earthly worries, resulting in a loss of spiritual clarity. The expression "or hunchbacked" signifies that the law excludes from spiritual leadership those who are weighed down by the burdens of worldly affairs. Lastly, "or single-minded" conveys that a person deemed wise cannot ascend to a spiritual position if their actions do not reflect the teachings they impart to others.

When the Old Testament is examined, even today, a curtain remains over Moses' countenance (2 Cor. 3:15). He speaks with a radiant visage, and the people find it difficult to endure the brilliance of his words (Ex. 34:29-35). However, when we turn towards the Lord, the veil is removed, the obsolete letter fades away, and the life-giving Spirit is awakened. For the Lord is Spirit, and the law is of the Spirit. It is also commanded that they should exhibit no signs of imperfection: neither mutilated ears, nor impaired vision, nor malformed nostrils, nor limping legs, nor discolored skin; all these are connected to the flaws of the soul. For it is not man's nature that merits condemnation, but rather his choices.

All of us who have been redeemed through the blood of Christ become partakers of the same great High Priest. As Peter conveys to us, "Ye are a chosen generation, a royal consecration" (1 Pet. 2:9). However, one who is bent towards the corrupt will always have a downward gaze. Such a person loses their priestly standing, for those who focus solely on worldly matters bear witness that they do not belong to the High Priesthood.
