Leviticus 26:36Meaning & Commentary from the Church Fathers

And as to them that shall remain of you I will send fear in their hearts in the countries of their enemies. The sound of a flying leaf shall terrify them: and they shall flee as it were from the sword. They shall fall, when no man pursueth them.

Additionally, he proclaimed another warning: "And to those who remain, I will instill dread in their hearts in the land of their adversaries, and the sound of a rustling leaf shall consume them, and they shall flee as those who flee from an army," and so forth. This prophecy came to pass. During the siege of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans, many lost their lives in battle, while others succumbed to famine. Those who were taken captive were led away to Babylon, and the few who escaped the hands of the enemy, fearing a renewed assault from the Chaldeans, sought refuge in Egypt. This starkly illustrates the prophecy of the most sacred Jeremiah.
