When the priests of Israel gathered together and convened with the community, a proclamation was made for all to hear, instructing, “Bring Aaron and his sons, the garments, anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread. Assemble the entire congregation at the entrance of the tent of meeting.” Moses then addressed the assembly, saying, “This is the command from the Lord.” He adorned Aaron and the priests with their garments, and he sprinkled anointing oil upon the altar seven times, as well as on all its utensils and the basin, and upon the tent and all that was inside, thus consecrating them. The tent is revered, but the altar is especially sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

It is not one with the dignity of rational beings, like angels or human souls, yet it is made holy through contact with the sacrifice placed upon it, for the location of Christ's presence is also sacred. By anointing the altar seven times, signifying abundance, Moses consecrated Aaron; he poured the anointing oil over him and presented sacrifices for both him and his sons, following the aforementioned procedure.
