Some have pondered why Matthew enumerates forty-two generations from Abraham to Christ, whereas Luke records fifty, and why their genealogies trace through different individuals. This reinforces our earlier point: while Matthew highlights certain ancestors of the Lord and Luke emphasizes others, both accounts affirm that their lineage traces back to Abraham and David. One should not be astonished to find more generations listed by Luke than by Matthew, as the genealogies progress through distinct figures. Some individuals live much longer, while others from different lineages may pass away prematurely; we observe that many elderly individuals are blessed to witness their grandchildren, while others depart this life having barely raised their children.

Farrin, Nahorov, and others: the Gospel writer Luke extends the lineage of Christ further back than the genealogies presented in Eu. Conversely, Matthew goes back to Abraham. In this section, the genealogy aligns closely with the family records and historical details found in the book of Genesis.
