The adversaries of the holy city attempt to persuade Nehemiah to descend into the valley and forge a peace treaty, symbolized by the shared sacrifice of calves, but he resolutely chooses to stay in the mountains, prioritizing his commitment to sacred tasks. Similarly, heretics and unbelievers seek a peaceful agreement with genuine believers, provided that the latter abandon their journey toward the stronghold of the Church's faith and its corresponding actions. Instead, these adversaries aim to pull those who have ascended to the heights of virtue down into the depths of immoral behaviors and erroneous beliefs. They indeed desire to form a covenant with Nehemiah in the valley, as they wish for all whom they might entice to adopt the same permissive lifestyle they themselves embrace.

It is noteworthy that they seek to bond with him through shared sacrifices, for the false brethren are keen to offer prayers and acts of service to God alongside true believers, aiming to blend in a way that allows them to lead genuine believers astray. Nevertheless, Nehemiah, embodying the integrity of faithful leaders, refuses to lower himself to engage with the wicked or partake in their hollow sacrifices. He remains steadfast in the virtuous endeavors he has undertaken. The more fiercely his enemies attempt to intimidate him, the more formidable he becomes by engaging in righteous actions.
