Theophan the Recluse
A deep affection, particularly expressed as gratitude, ignited an intense passion for the honor of God that could not permit any irreverent idea about Him, nor could it endure such notions in others, whether in action or even in thought. When God resolved to wipe out the entire people, Moses set aside all else—both the people and his own self—focusing solely on one concern: the potential tarnishing of God's glory in the sight of surrounding nations.
