The angel, interrupting his speech, proclaimed, "The Lord... is with you; you will defeat Midian as if you were one man."

Gideon trembled at the sight of the countless forces of Midian, revealing to his companion the frailty and limited numbers of Israel's army. The angel of the Lord reassures Gideon by declaring that with divine assistance, overcoming those vast numbers will be as simple as confronting a single individual.
