Observe how Judas and his companions are situated in the foremost positions, occupying a designated spot towards the east and south. For those who dwell in Christ reside in the radiance of His presence, ignited by the Spirit.

Wlastow G.K.

19th centuryCommentator

Judah situated in the center, with Issachar positioned to his right and Zebulun to his left, constituted the vanguard, directed eastward with their backs turned to the Tabernacle. As per rabbinic tradition, all the standards of this forefront were green. The prominent flag of Judah displayed the likeness of a lion. (Cf. Gen. 49:9).
