The descendants of Caath, the closest clan of the Levites, were connected to Moses and Aaron (Ex. 6:16, 20) and were the largest in number among the Levite tribes. They were assigned significant responsibilities, which included the oversight of the ark of the covenant, all the items utilized in worship and sacrifices, and the curtain that divided the holy place from the Most Holy Place. Additionally, they were under the direct leadership of Eleazar, who held authority over the leaders of the other two Levite clans (v. 32).
