The descendants of Kohath, including Amram, Ishar, and Uzziel, numbered six hundred and seven thousand and six hundred males from a month old and upwards. They were positioned to the south of the Tabernacle and were entrusted with the responsibility of carrying the Tabernacle, the offerings, the lampstand, the altar, and the various sacred vessels. Their sacred duty reflects several important aspects: (1) the sons of Kohath symbolize a servant entrusted with five talents; (2) they represent perfection; (3) they are akin to ministering spirits; (4) they embody the Thrones of God.

The clan of Caath, the closest of all the Levitical families and connected to Moses and Aaron (Ex. 6: 16, 20), was also the largest within the tribe of Levi. They were entrusted with significant responsibilities, including the care of the ark of the covenant, the items utilized in sacred rituals and offerings, and the curtain that separated the holy place from the most holy place. Additionally, Eleazar oversaw this clan, wielding the leadership authority over the other two Levitical families (v. 32).
