Cyrill of Alexandria

5th centuryChurch Father

After ravaging the towns and entirety of the Midianite territory, they brought the spoils to Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly of the Israelites. This act symbolizes that the righteous deeds of the faithful serve as sacred offerings to Christ, the supreme High Priest, and are visible to the nations, in accordance with the Scripture which states, 'For there is nothing secret that is not made manifest, nor hidden that is not made known and revealed.' (Luke 8:17.) Therefore, the presentation of all the captives before the priest and the entire congregation carries a figurative and providential significance.
