One Church Father comments on this verse

Vissarion (Nechaev)

19th centuryCommentator

He safeguards their journey to maintain the ways of righteousness, which means He assists them through His unseen strength to walk faithfully along the road of holiness, devotion, and goodness. He will shield those who honor Him with reverence, protecting them on life's path from trials and tribulations, as well as from adversities and misfortunes. He directs His angels to watch over them in all their ways (Psalm 90:11) as they trust not in their own understanding and might for safety and success, but rather in the wisdom and care of God.
