    A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing.

    The Fathers see the shepherd as Christ Himself, who says, "I am the good shepherd." According to Euthymios Zigabenos, He gathers the lost nations into the Church, so that they lack nothing needed for salvation. For John Chrysostom, whoever has God's grace is the wealthiest, and Augustine of Hippo notes that this confession places all trust outside oneself.
