One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Noemmin expresses her inability to endure the wait for her daughters-in-law to marry those whom she has given life to, just as she cannot contemplate marrying at her advanced age while waiting for her own marriage, the birth of her children, or their maturity; for the Lord’s displeasure has come upon her. Thus, although the account of Ruth could have been recorded for the glory of God, it stands on its own as a valuable narrative for those who can draw lessons from such tales, as it illustrates the profound trials and remarkable endurance of Noemmin.
