The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

Noemmin expresses her deep anguish, stating that she cannot endure the thought of waiting for you to marry the children I have brought into this world. Furthermore, I cannot enter into marriage in my old age, waiting for you to unite with me, or for my offspring to be conceived, or for them to reach maturity, for the wrath of God has fallen upon me. Thus, although the tale of Ruth ought to have been recorded for the glory of the Lord, this narrative stands alone as a testament that is immensely beneficial to those who can appreciate such stories. It illustrates the profound hardships and remarkable endurance of Noemmini.
