Sirach 35

Old TestamentTheosis · English Bible

1He who strictly observes the law increases his offerings; 2he who offers a thanksgiving sacrifice keeps the commandments. 3He who shows favor is like one who offers fine flour; 4and he who acts mercifully offers a sacrifice of praise. 5The Lord is pleased with one who keeps away from wickedness; and reconciliation is granted to one who avoids injustice. 6Do not appear before the Lord empty-handed; 7for all these things are done because of the commandment. 8The offering of the righteous oils the altar, and its fragrance reaches the Most High. 9The sacrifice of a righteous man is accepted, and its memory will not be forgotten. 10With a generous eye, praise the Lord, and do not reduce the first fruits of your hands. 11In every gift, show a cheerful face, and consecrate your tithe with gladness. 12Give to the Most High as He has given to you, and with a generous eye according to what your hand has earned. 13For the Lord is one who recompenses, and He will repay you sevenfold. 14Do not try to bribe Him, for He will not accept it; 15and do not rely on an unjust sacrifice; for the Lord is a judge, and with Him there is no partiality. 16He does not favor the poor, but He hears the prayer of the oppressed. 17He does not overlook the plea of the orphan or the widow when she pours out her complaint. 18Do not the tears of a widow run down her cheeks, 19and her cry against him who causes them to fall? 20He who serves the Lord will be accepted with favor, and his prayer will reach the clouds. 21The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds, and until it comes near, he will not be comforted; and he will not stop until the Most High regards him. 22And the Lord will judge righteously, and He will execute justice. And He will not delay, nor will He be patient with them, until He has broken the loins of the unmerciful. 23And He will take vengeance on the nations, until He has removed the multitude of the ungodly and shattered the scepters of the unrighteous. 24Until He repays a man according to his deeds, and the works of men according to their intentions. 25Until He renders judgment for His people and gladdens them with His mercy. 26Mercy is welcome in time of distress, as rain clouds in time of drought.
