One Church Father comments on this verse

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

In the absence of generosity, kindness emerges as the source of everything, fostering friendship and bringing unity. It provides trustworthy counsel, rejoices in times of blessing, and shares in the sorrow of others. People tend to place greater trust in the guidance of a righteous person than in that of a wise individual, a truth exemplified by David, who, despite his greater wisdom, embraced the counsel of the younger Jonathan.
