One Church Father comments on this verse

Ambrose of Milan

4th centuryChurch Father

Even in the absence of generosity, kindness acts as the source of all that is good, fostering companionship and bringing people together. It offers sound counsel, rejoices in prosperity, and shares in grief. People are often more inclined to heed the guidance of a righteous individual than that of one who is simply wise, as illustrated by David, who, despite his greater wisdom, chose to follow the counsel of the younger Jonathan.
