The sacrament represented by the marriage covenant bestowed upon Avigea the divine blessing of the Father's grace, as her name signifies. The Father's blessing is none other than the Word of God, which fills all hearts with the waters of faith and righteousness. To such a soul, David echoes the words spoken to Abigail: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who sent you to meet me, and blessed be your understanding (1 Sam. 25:32-33). He further says to her: Go in peace to your home; I have listened to your words and honored your request (1 Sam. 25:35). In the Song of Songs, the bridegroom calls to his bride, Show me your face, let me hear your voice (Song 2:14).

David later sent her away because her husband, known by the Hebrew name Nabal, which means foolish, harsh, inhospitable, cruel, and ungrateful, was unable to show gratitude. However, following her husband’s death, the prophet David took her as his wife, as she was released from the obligations of her former marriage. This union symbolizes the order of the Church among the Gentiles who will have faith, for after the passing of her husband, she came to Christ, bringing with her a dowry of devotion, humility, and belief, along with a bountiful inheritance of grace.
