When the ark of the Lord was brought back to Israel from the land of the Philistines, it was set upon a cart. The Philistines placed the newly calved cows in this cart while confining their calves at home. The cows proceeded straight towards the road leading to Bethshem, moving along the path and lowing, without veering off to the right or to the left. These cows can be seen as a representation of the faithful within the Church. As they contemplate the sacred teachings, it is as though they are bearing the ark of the Lord. Notably, the cows are described as newly calved; many individuals are on a spiritual journey towards God, yet are still bound by worldly attachments. Despite this, they remain steadfast on the path of righteousness, carrying the ark of the Lord within their hearts.

Their destination, Bethshem, translates to 'house of the sun.' The prophet declares, "And for you who reverence My name, the Sun of righteousness shall rise" (Malachi 4:2). Therefore, as we progress towards the dwelling of the eternal Sun, it is crucial that we do not deviate from the path to God in yielding to our worldly cravings. With all our strength, we should recognize that the cows pulling God's chariot walk and low, expressing from their innermost being yet remaining true to their course. This is the example God's messengers should emulate, as should every believer in the holy Church. They must show love and compassion to their neighbors, but such compassion should not divert them from their pursuit of God.
