At that time Hanani the prophet came to Asa king of Juda, and said to him: Because thou hast had confidence in the king of Syria, and not in the Lord thy God, therefore hath the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

Yet the God who cares for humanity did not abandon him without healing, and He sent the prophet Ananias to confront his lack of faith, declaring: ‘Because you placed complete trust in the king of Sirach and failed to believe in the Lord your God, the strength of the king of Israel was preserved. Your lack of faith led to their deliverance. Had you believed as you typically did, you would have completely annihilated them all.’
