The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Tertullian

3rd centuryTeacher of the Church

As previously indicated, the imminent end of the old covenant and the physical circumcision was foretold, paving the way for the realization of the new covenant and the spiritual circumcision in the future. David proclaims, “The people whom I have not known serve me; foreigners submit to me, as they hear of me.” These truths have been declared by the prophets. Yet, who are these people who previously did not know God, except for those of us who once were ignorant of Him? And who are those who have begun to obey Him upon hearing of Him, but rather we who, having abandoned idols, have turned to God?
