The liberty to have multiple wives and concubines at the end of times, as the need for human procreation diminished, rightly found its conclusion in the perfection of the Gospel. Even prior to Christ's advent, the blessing of the foundational commandment was intended to persist, stating, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth” (Gen. 1:28). Consequently, it was fitting that from this source of human fertility, which continued to have its place in the synagogue as the times warranted, the virtues of angelic purity should flourish, and the fruits of self-control should emerge within the body of Christ.
