2 Church Fathers comment on this verse

Jerome of Stridon

4th centuryChurch Father

Should you fail to reveal both the dream and its interpretation, you will face ruin, and your possessions will be seized. The king instills fear of retribution yet offers rewards; thus, those who can disclose the dream may also uncover the deeper truths hidden within its meaning. However, if they cannot articulate what the king remembers, however vaguely, it will undermine their faith in decoding the dream's significance. Hence, it becomes evident:

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

When the king responded without delay, he addressed the Chaldeans, saying, "The decree has left my presence: if you fail to reveal both the dream and its interpretation, you will face destruction, and your households will be laid waste."
