When God's honour is compromised, it is neither safe nor beneficial to show compassion; such times call for a rejection of leniency rooted in shallow mutual regard. The Lord indicated this truth when He said, ‘Whoever loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me’ (Matthew 10:37). Therefore, let earthly sympathy fade away, and let the influence of natural affection and human attachments be set aside, so that, in a manner of speaking, through divine severity, God may receive the honour He is due.

Would you not consider it a righteous act to impose severe penalties on those who engage in unforgivable apostasy, as they affront the supreme glory that surpasses all else, rather than lightly disregarding the honour due to Him whom we should strive to please with resolute effort?
