He also mentions consequences such as plagues, different sufferings, and captivity, and, most distressingly, he declares, The stranger that is with you shall rise higher, while you shall fall lower. In doing so, he implies the devotion of the Gentiles and predicts the faithlessness of the Israelites, along with their suffering at the hands of the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Macedonians, culminating in the tragedies during the Roman siege of the city.
