John Chrysostom
While I may not deserve punishment for my negligent and inexperienced stewardship of Christ's flock, the thought of being entrusted with such significant responsibilities weighs heavily on me, more than any retribution I could face, as it highlights my unworthiness in the eyes of Him who bestowed them upon me. Those who are elevated beyond their station should not use the magnitude of this honour as a rationale for their shortcomings; rather, they ought to allow the immense care that God extends towards them to motivate them to pursue even greater virtue. When someone receives a lofty position and believes it grants them the freedom to transgress, they only attempt to attribute their sins to the humanity of God, which reflects the attitudes of those who live in ungodliness and negligence.

We must not adopt such a mindset nor succumb to their folly. Instead, we should strive in all things to fulfill our responsibilities to the best of our ability while maintaining both a faithful expression and a respectful heart. Consider the first priest of the Jews, who received many messages from God through Moses; he nearly faced destruction due to the madness of the multitude. It was only the intercession of his brother that stayed the wrath of God.
