Esther 2:15Meaning & Commentary from the Church Fathers

And as the time came orderly about, the day was at hand, when Esther, the daughter of Abihail the brother of Mardochai, whom he had adopted for his daughter, was to go in to the king. But she sought not women's ornaments, but whatsoever Egeus the eunuch the keeper of the virgins had a mind, he gave her to adorn her. For she was exceeding fair, and her incredible beauty made her appear agreeable and amiable in the eyes of all.

The splendid banquet celebrating Esther's marriage, which was arranged for both the dignitaries and the common folk, symbolizes the ultimate joy that brings delight to all humanity—both the exalted and the humble—which stems from the divine union of Christ and His Church. At this gathering, those deemed worthy do not partake of physical sustenance, but rather are nourished with the spiritual nourishment of wisdom and virtue. All believers are granted the holy Sacraments of the Body and Blood of our Lord, serving as the means for their salvation; within these Sacraments lies the food of everlasting life.

Our King grants tranquility to every corner of the earth and offers generous gifts, liberating those who have faith in Him from the weight of their sins and endowing them with spiritual blessings. Consequently, He Himself proclaims in the Gospel: Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will comfort you; take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:28-29).
