The phrase "inner pole" lacks clarity. However, it is evident that the vertical posts were secured along their length by crosspieces that passed through the rings. Most scholars propose that the crosspieces, which were generally half the length of the central pole—originally intended to be 60 feet—were positioned at both the top and bottom of the vertical posts. Two shorter poles, each measuring 30 feet, were inserted through the rings at the upper and lower ends. The central pole, as interpreted by some translations and commentaries, was placed within the grooves carved along the entire length of the wall joists.
