The incineration of the offering beyond the borders of the camp is an integral aspect of the sin offering ritual for both the priest and the community (Lev. 4:12 and 21). In contrast, the sin offerings made by the Israelites involved the priests consuming the sacrifice rather than burning it outside the camp.
