Moses poured the anointing oil and the blood from the altar onto Aaron, his sons, and their garments, consecrating them. He instructed, “At the door of the tabernacle, sit ye seven days until ye be made perfect” (Lev. 8:35). During this seven-day period, they held the title of priests, but the duties of the priestly office were conducted by Moses.
