In verse 21 of this chapter, as well as verse 30 of Leviticus, it states that following the offering, ‘Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and so he sanctified Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his garments with him.’ The reference to the sons of Aaron consistently signifies the priests, indicating that the holy oil was poured over both them and their garments.

Many scholars interpret this to signify that Aaron received the principal anointing and application of oil as the High Priest, and subsequently, he was anointed together with the other priests, who were also consecrated but did not attain the same level of sanctification. For details about the tunics, sashes, and bands, one should consult the previous chapter.
