Why, it may be asked, is the tabernacle referred to as ‘the tabernacle of the testimony’? This designation exists so that God might serve as a witness. Its very purpose was to fulfill this role. ‘According to the pattern which was shown thee in the mount’ (Exodus 25:40). Thus, the design was revealed on the mountain, and it was moved throughout the wilderness, and not left stationary. The tabernacle of the testimony derives its name solely from the miracles and commandments associated with it.
