Throughout the prophetic writings, God consistently referred to Israel as a vine. David declares, "The grapes were carried out of Egypt" (Psalm 79:9). Isaiah refers to it as "The grapes are the beloved" (Isaiah 5:1), while Jeremiah laments, "How have you become a sorrow, O true grape" (Jeremiah 2:21). Thus, through this metaphor of grapevines, He illustrates Israel's lack of worthiness. Just as the grapevine is less suitable for utility than other trees—since it cannot even provide the smallest stake for support, ultimately yielding only fuel for fire—this people is deemed destined for destruction and judgment. It is noted that its summer harvest is consumed by flames, leading to its complete eradication.
