Jerome of Stridon

Thus, I will evaluate each individual from the house of Israel based on their ways, declares the Lord God, whether the individuals being assessed are from the Gentiles or from Israel itself: for there is no partiality with God (Rom. 2:11). Each person will receive a reward for their faith and will face condemnation for their wickedness and unbelief. Additionally, refer to verses 31.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

For this reason, I will evaluate each individual based on their actions, O house of Israel, declares the Lord God. After issuing such a warning and delivering a just judgment, the Almighty transforms His words into an encouragement. Repent and turn away from all your transgressions, so that no injustice may befall you in anguish. Depart from your iniquities, which have wronged Me, and renew your hearts and spirits. Why do you choose to perish, O house of Israel? Forsake the path of sin and embrace a new purpose; commit to obeying My commandments, so that you may avoid the consequences of your sins. The Prophet calls for a new heart and a new spirit, representing the soul’s turn toward a more righteous path. In this way, God discloses His abundant goodness.
