Jerome of Stridon

To this day, Israel has accused God of abandoning His people in favor of the Gentiles. The Lord has revealed to them the error of their ways, yet it is just for the Lord to appoint new caretakers in His vineyard when the previous stewards have failed. Upon realizing this truth in the Gospel parable, the Jewish leaders exclaimed, “Let it not be so” (Luke 20:16).

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

The prophet declares that the house of Israel, upon witnessing these matters, proclaimed, ‘The path of the Lord is not fulfilled: for the path of the Lord remains unfulfilled, O house of Israel; yet have you fulfilled your own path? The deeds themselves testify that my judgments are just and accurate, while your choices are steeped in unrighteousness.
