Likewise, Jacob, while pronouncing blessings upon Judah, remarked, ‘The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from his descendants, until he comes to whom it belongs: and he is the expectation of nations (Genesis 49:10). Thus, we see here that the reign of the Lord Christ is to be understood in this context, as He says, And this One will not be as before, until He arrives, the one who is worthy, and I will deliver Him.
Jerusalem, having endured siege and desolation at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, faced even greater suffering from the Romans following the redemptive cross. After the initial conquest and the seventy years of exile, the city was rebuilt and returned to its former glory; however, post-redemptive cross, it faced complete ruin. The Jewish people could not even enter its borders due to prohibitions enacted by the law. Therefore, God declared, And this one will not be like the previous one, referring to what is to come; for I will safeguard the lineage until He arrives, the one deemed worthy, and I shall surrender it to Him. When He, to whom the promises pertain, appears, I will hand over the kingdom to Him, leading them to ultimate destruction. Following this, the prophecy directs its attention to the Ammonites, who, due to their animosity towards the Jews, rejoiced in their misfortunes.
