Ephraem the Syrian

4th centuryChurch Father

On that day, the one who remains will approach you to share a message with you. He will enable you to speak, and then you will finally be able to proclaim to the people. Your words will be validated by their realization, and you will keep them in your heart.

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

When the prophecy comes to fruition, the sacred ground will be surrendered to ruthless invaders, and the children will meet their end. A messenger will arise from that place to convey the events that have unfolded, reminding them of the prophecy and urging them not to remain silent. They are to understand that this has occurred by My design and decree, as a consequence of their own unrighteousness. Their suffering is a result of My righteous indignation, not merely due to the might of their adversaries. Following this, the prophecy addresses those residing near Israel, who take pleasure in the tragedy befalling this land, eagerly heralding the offspring of Ammon.
