Ephraem the Syrian
I will fasten your tongue to your throat. This illustrates the plight of the beleaguered Jews, who, due to their thirst, were compared to the silent, stripped of the power to communicate.
And I will make thy tongue stick fast to the roof of thy mouth, and thou shalt be dumb, and not as a man that reproveth: because they are a provoking house.

The Lord, akin to a pestle, embraces the Prophet as a determined wrestler, revealing to him the impending grief and hardships that the people will impose upon him. He instructs him to endure, to remain patient, and to maintain silence until He permits him to voice his words. Each time, He emphasizes, 'For the house of the angry is wrathful,' thereby teaching not to fear those who provoke God's anger; for those who act without law merit disdain.
