The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will hand over Egypt to the most ruthless of nations, the Babylonians, resulting in widespread bloodshed across their territory and desolate rivers following the decay of its people. It is declared that I will entrust the land to the hands of the unrighteous, rather than betray it. This aligns with the earlier proclamation that I will deliver the Egyptians to Nebuchadnezzar as recognition for his efforts during the siege of Tyre. Subsequently, God predicts that the detestable practices of Egypt, represented by their idols laden with abominations, will be shattered by their adversaries.
