The Church Fathers on this verse

One Church Father comments on this verse

Theodoret of Cyrus

5th centuryChurch Father

I will hand Egypt over to the most ruthless of nations, the Babylonians, ensuring that their entire territory is saturated with violence, and the rivers will become desolate following the devastation of its people. It is declared that I will place the land into the hands of the ungodly, rather than betray it. This aligns with what was stated previously, that I will deliver the Egyptians to Nebuchadnezzar as a reward for his efforts in the siege of Tyre. Subsequently, God prophesies that the detestable practices of Egypt, specifically their idols steeped in wickedness, shall be shattered by their foes.
