Ephraem the Syrian
The prophet clarifies the meaning behind the imagery of the rods by stating, ‘I will gather .... and I will give them into one tongue in the mountains of Israel’ (Ezekiel 37:21-22).
And join them one to the other into one stick, and they shall become one in thy hand.

During the reign of Rehoboam, the tribes became split, with ten tribes forming a kingdom in Samaria, a city of Ephraim, and ruling independently, while the tribes of Judah and Benjamin also maintained their own governance. However, upon their return, they all existed under a single authority. Thus, God instructed the Prophet to take two sticks—inscribing one with the name of Ephraim and the tribes associated with him, and the other with the name of Judah along with those loyal to him. He was then to unite the two sticks, indicating that division was ultimately resolved, leading to cohesion. God further directed the Prophet to ensure that those who sought understanding should receive a clear explanation of this vision.
